Puppet Conference

Art direction for Puppet’s 2017 developer conference translated an infrastructure automation brand into physical space. Hexagonal grids, disciplined orange accents, and precise typography established the visual system. Clean sightlines and consistent lighting kept focus on the speakers, while graphics framed the presentations.

Challenge

Brand presence without corporate theater

Avoid clichéd "developer conference" aesthetic (particle effects, aggressive gradients)
Preserve strict visual hierarchy: speaker content as primary, brand graphics as secondary
Sustain attention through 8-hour program days without sensory fatigue

Solution

Geometric restraint for live media

Modular screen configurations adapted to keynotes, demos, and panels
Side-screen graphics employed hexagonal tessellations as infrastructure metaphor
Lighting plots maintained focus on speakers; brand colors served strictly as accents
